Reiki Master/Teacher, EAMP, LAc, Dipl OM, CMT, Founder of Black Pine Holistic Healing

“I feel Chinese medicine has saved me. It has taught me about life and about balance. It takes the complicated and breaks it down into its most basic parts. Most importantly, it introduced me to the incredible world of energy work– where the mundane becomes the extraordinary.” –Melissa

Melissa was first introduced to energy work in 2003 through her qigong training, while completing a master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A year later, she was attuned to Reiki level one; and completed her Master/Teacher training in 2008. She’s treated countless patients in supporting them to let go of fear, open their hearts, and allow for their personal truth to emerge. Gemstones and flower essences are a regular part of her practice.

After ten years of practice, Melissa feels confident Reiki is not just a therapy, but a way of life. She feels honored to be able to share Reiki’s uniquely loving approach to life with her students.

Melissa is a licensed acupuncturist in the states of CA, NY and WA. Due to the broad number of modalities found within Chinese medicine practice, acupuncturists in WA are aptly titled, “East Asian Medicine Practitioners.” Melissa is a NCCAOM-certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, having studied acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in both the United States and in China. She has completed additional training in pulse diagnosis with pulse master, Robert (“Dr. Bob”) Levine in Berkeley, CA and auricular acupuncture through the Community Ear Acupuncture Project in San Francisco, CA.

Chinese Herbalist

After completing an herbal-intensive training at the TCM hospitals in China, 2006, Melissa has come to feel quite passionately about the role of herbs in health and healing. She’s spent a number of years learning about the industry, both behind the counter as an herbal pharmacist at Spring Wind Dispensary, and behind the scenes as Director of Communications for Kamwo. Her knowledge of herbs and supplements, including herb-drug interaction, quality control, and effectiveness has only deepened since working as Lead Practitioner for Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy in Seattle.

Certified Massage Therapist

Melissa completed a 605-hour certification course in Shiatsu massage (combined didactic and hands-on training) in 2006, including introductory Thai and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques. She expanded her learning in this area by attending continuing education on trigger point therapy to provide patients comprehensive physical medicine care.

Additionally, she has been a substitute teacher at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, NY and assistant instructor at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CA).

In addition to being published, she loves giving talks to both the general public and medical professionals on subjects ranging from Chinese medicine to compassionate communication.
